Week of November 2-8

November 3

Dan was back today! He thought he wanted to make a larger Scary Cheese Knife, but then he saw the rasp knife. He made such a cool knife today, leaving the flattened texture on the blade. Then he decided he liked the look of the steel handle so much, that he left it as is. I was so glad he did too. It looks beautiful, and feels really nice holding it!

November 4

Fun class with Oliver and Erin! They conquered the taper and made great Scary Cheese Knives!

November 5

Anniversary Steel Flower Making! Fun class with this couple for their 11th anniversary, which is tradionally a steel gift. Perfect!

November 6

I had to wait to post this until the gift was given. Kevin finished his knife he made for his father yesterday! This is Kevin's 3rd year in the homeschool course, and the skills he has learned really showed in this knife! It is absolutely beautiful! Copper guard with ipe handle.

And then he started his next knife!

November 6

Leaf Day in the forge for Level 1 Homeschoolers! Otherwise known as "Dreaded Leaf Day". Leaves are always a good challenge. They have already learned all the skills to make them, but they work with a thicker piece of steel, have to use different types of tongs, and not lose their piece in the fire. But everyone did a great job! They made their 2 leaves, and then started chopsticks! And one finished both of them with a perfect matching pair!

November 6

Grandpa-Grandson Knifemaking! Fun class with these two. Both of them made beautiful knives, one Railroad Spike Knife and one Scary Cheese Knife!

November 8

Wednesday night's class was another one I had to wait to post until the gift was given! Joel and his son came in to the forge so Joel could make his wife a knife for their 11th anniversary (the steel anniversary)! He made a beautiful Scary Cheese Knife. His son came along to make his first knife, a Railroad Spike Knife because it's fun!

November 8

Jeremy and his son were back in the forge to make their first Billet Knives! They did great, and got both blades hammered out and ground. Tomorrow we will heat treat, finish sand, and add handle material.

November 8

Fun class today with Amanda and her father, Roger! They came to learn the basic skills every blacksmith should learn by making an "S" hook. Great job!

November 8

Fun class with Chad tonight! He wanted to learn as many skills as he could in one class, so the Scary Cheese Knife it is! Perfect combination of blacksmithing and bladesmithing. He did a great job!
