Week of June 8-14
June 8
Jeff and his son came to the forge for the first time this morning. They forged a couple of beautiful Railroad Spike Knives! They both decided to leave the texture on the blade for that rustic, bushcraft style finish. It really looks nice with the blade shape. I definitely think we'll will be seeing them again!

Arnold and his son were back this afternoon! Arnold is starting his first Billet Knife. It looks great so far! Next time he will finish sand and add the handle material. His son did the railroad spike knife last time, so today he practiced some basic blacksmithing skills by making an "S" hook! Great tapers!
Then, because he finished early, he and I created a new game--Forge Pin Ball! Another fantastic use of ball bearings from Rescued Metals & Supply! That was fun. Video coming tomorrow...and rematch next time!
Forge Pin Ball!
June 10
Kevin was in this morning to continue working on his Short Sword. He was one of the Level 2 Homeschool students, and we just ran out of time to finish his sword. So he will be working on it this week. Its going to be beautiful!

What a great--and busy!--afternoon with this family. Two of them have been here before, and 2 were new. If you've heard me talking about the grandfather who got to teach his wife and granddaughter how to use the drill press and weld during their Steel flower class, this is the granddaughter! It was wonderful to meet them rest of the family today. So...one started a Billet Knife. One did a Scary Cheese Knife. And the newbies did a Railroad Spike Knife, and the other did a Steel Flower. They are a great family, and it was so fun to have them in the forge again!
June 10
And rounding out the day was Dave, his wife, brother, and friends! Lots of creative Railroad Spike Knives were made!
June 11
Kevin was back this morning to finish his Short Sword--and he brought his puppers! Today he fitted the brass guard, then did all the handle work. Great work!
June 11
Birthday Knifemaking! Grace arranged a Railroad Spike Knifemaking Class for her boyfriend's, Mason, birthday. They both made fantastic knives. Different styles, but they compliment each other beautifully.
June 12
Teresa and Dan came from the Gaylord area with their grandchildren for some Knifemaking Family Fun! Great knives, and memories, were made!
June 12
Oh these 2 were fun! Alex brought her step-father in for Father’s Day Knifemaking. They both did great!
June 14
Arnold and his son were back to finish up the Billet knife...and for a Forge Pin Ball rematch! Spolier alert, the young squire beat me 4-2. But Arnold's knife is beautiful! It's made from saw blade steel, with a black resin handle and steel pins. Very classic, and very very sharp!
June 14
Father's, sons, cousins, uncles...however you organize them, it was family fun at the forge today! They came from Ann Arbor to make their first knives. Nice sharp blades, and great artistic choices!
