Week of June 15-21
June 15
We have a lot of fathers come to the forge, but Dan is definitely one of the favorites! Last time he and his daughter were here, they made Steel Flowers. Today they made Magic Wands! Wands are fun because its all artistic choice.
June 16
What a fun team from Stryker today! They did such a great job in the fire too. Everyone made fantastic knives!
June 17
Jackson did a great job finishing up the knife he's been working on! Forged from sawblade steel, with a Brute de Forge finish (leaving texture) on the blade, a burgundy and silver resin handle, and steel pins. It looks perfect on the knife stands he bought for it. (Knife stands made by Matthew, one of the homeschool students. Available for purchase at the forge.)
Then with the time left, he started a steak knife with an integrated bolster for himself. He will finish that next time.
June 19
Braven is finally 9! His parents came to the forge a few years ago, and he's been wanting to come ever since. He and his father made railroad spike Magic Wands in the forge!
June 19
Eric was in the forge for the first time today. He received a class as a gift. He did a great job forging his first knife!
June 19
The newly high school graduate, Evan, was back in the forge today! He first came maybe 5 years ago, with his father. He has made a huge range of blades, including damascus, a katana, and an "apocalypse" style machete. today he worked on a broadsword and a twisted Damascus Tanto. (Sometimes it helps to have a couple things going when you're working on big projects.) The goal is to finish both of them before he's off to college!! () And CONGRATULATIONS on your graduation Evan!!
June 20
Andy was back in the forge this morning to start his 1st Billet Knife! Starting with a 10 inch piece of 5160 spring steel, it's now 13 inches. Initially wanting a harpoon tip knife, but the steel wanted a little sprinkling of a Bowie--and that's the fun part about making your own knife. You can have it be whatever you want! This one is a fun one to hold though. You feel very powerful. Next week he will add a guard and the handle scales.
June 20
Fun class with these 3! The young Squire is friends with one of our homeschool students (hi Elijah!). So he came in with his father and a family friend visiting from Washington State. They made railroad spike knives. Nice job by all of them!
