Week of August 3-9
August 3
It's done! Evan finished his Broadsword! He started here about 4 years ago, and is now off to college soon. This was such a great project to do before that!
August 3
Girl Scouts in the forge! Fun afternoon with this troop from Indiana! They were naturals at plasma and welding. Beautiful flowers made by all of them!
August 5
Nate and his son finished their Billet Knives last night! Such different blades, but both gorgeous!
August 6
Finally got Paris to the forge! Paris was the Home Healthcare worker that helped me with Jon last year. Yesterday she came in to make a Billet knife for her fiancé as a wedding gift! It's absolutely beautiful--but it's also a surprise! Once she gives it to him, I can show it.
August 6
Justin brought his son and nephew to the forge yesterday to make their first knives! They did a great job. Many artistic decisions made along the way!
August 7
Anniversary Knifemaking! Courtney and Brandon came to the forge this afternoon for their 10th anniversary to make Railroad Spike Knives. Great couple, and great knives!!
August 7
Breanna is back! She was busy making more rings, and then tried snails and purse hooks, all from silverware!
August 9
Alex and Paul finished their damascus knives this morning. Both of them are exceptionally beautiful! Alex started with 11 layers, and made an 88 layer raindrop pattern damascus "kitchen" knife. Starting with 13 layers, Paul's is a 52 layer raindrop pattern damascus cleaver. The combination of the lower layer and raindrop really created a beautiful pattern on the cleaver, which is difficult to do. Both of them did a fantastic job forge welding and folding the steel, hammering the shapes, grinding, finish sanding, and adding the handles. And they are just nice people to have in the forge!
August 9
Scott was back this afternoon to finish his damascus Kukri! He wanted a bold pattern, so he started with 11 layer and did one fold to make 22 layers. Perfect choice for the Kukri!! The handle is sepele, with steel and brass pins. Gorgeous knife!
August 9
Fun class with Alan and his son, AJ! They came from Cleveland for one last fun thing before AJ is off to college. They made fantastic railroad spike knives! I definitely think we will be seeing them again.
